Mmmmmmmmmmmm
February 12, 2007
Two tasty things:

this little mention of REAPER was nice to read.

And, also, I just got a dual quad core xeon machine.. 8 2.33ghz cores. Wow. Insanely powerful. Quieter than I expected, too. Mmmm. Thank you, Dell (can I have my next one for free for that plug?).

REAPER hauls complete ass on this box. Amazingly fast, and it can use nearly all of the processing power available. I did some testing on my Athlon64x2, and it could do like 12 tracks of FX (reagate+reacomp+reafir+reaverb), and this thing can do over 50. Having flawless audio playback with 8 cores humming away at 95% of each used is a beautiful beautiful thing. Here's a screenshot.

Now when you can get one of these for $1500, then it will be insane. I'm guessing late 2008.

Almost forgot, how much does a dual quad core machine cost these days? I doubt I can afford it :(

Your computer would run even faster without Google Desktop search, java, windows security center, etc.Google Desktop is
a bear on resources.

Nice, although it seemed overkill to try a 8 ghz rig; must be running on linux, right?

Uhm, Windows Security Center isn't really a resource hogger, unless Microsoft wrote it really badly and I know that Microsoft know how to write decent code.
Now for the whine:
1) I hope it's Windows XP Pro, Home Edition has problems with multiple CPUs.
2) Windows XP theme looks like crap :-\

Anyway, this site really needs a redesign :-D
Looks kind of ... I don't know in Firefox under Linux and XFWM4.

Everybodies got something to say... A smart man runs windows and stays faaaaaar, far away from trendy, overpriced, hardware nazi's like Apple. And when you got 8 cores i dont think you really need to worry about "performance" issues. Java might be uncool on a 700mhz p3, but cmon?? Get your head out of your ass, This 8 CORES!! Nothings gonan stop that thing. Good job man. 8 cores is freakin insane. I cant even imagine that kind of power for recording. Must be nice! Love the cpu per track feature.

What kind of sound card are you running that through to do 50 tracks at once? Just curious.
